Chocolate Toffee "Sweatheart" Cookies

Well, I don't know about you, but I am pretty excited to be posting my first recipe to over 1,000 fans!!  I was so excited to hit such an important milestone!  I am grateful for every single one of you.  Let me know if you have requests, or if you make a dish of mine, post pics or whatever!  I want to hear YOUR successes too!

It doesn't seem much like January OR February around here.  It was 70 degree's yesterday here in Nebraska.  Crazy!  None the less, Valentine's Day is nearing and I don't know about you but I LOVE this holiday!  I used to make special Valentines Day treats for Cody and George.  I would write them little letters, and put them by their plates for dinner.  We would have all things that were heart shaped or meant something special to us as a family for dinner.  Fun times and special memories for sure!

Here is a little cookie, that I thought would be tasty and I would be able to use an idea from a ChefWannabe reader, Dorothy Moore.  She has a rule that she won't allow herself to buy any kitchen gadget that is a unitasker.  She has to have more than one use for it.  I posted my adorable little heart measuring cups and she threw out the idea of using the smallest one as like a cookie form.  Instead of rolling and using a cookie butter, you could form the cookie and dump it out.  I did just that Dorothy!  I sprayed it with nonstick cooking spray and though some took a couple hard wraps on the pan to get out, they are adorable. (Feel free to use a cookie cutter or just roll them in balls and smoosh down slightly)  I added a small conversation heart in the middle after I took them out of the oven while they were still soft and hot.  Here we go with the recipe:

2/3 cup of butter softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
1 tbsp milk
2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup butterscotch chips
1/2 cup toffee bits
1/2 cup chocolate chips
                                                                    Small conversation heart candies

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  In your mixer cream together butter and sugars until smooth.  Add baking powder, salt, egg, vanilla, and milk, mix thoroughly.  Fold in chips and toffee bits.  Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper, or spray with nonstick spray.  You can choose to roll these out, form them into a log, freeze and slice, or do what I did!  Bake for 7-9 minutes.  I like soft cookies so I under bake them.  When you take them out, IMMEDIATELY press the conversation heart into the middle, let cool and give them to someone you LOVE!!!

I hope you enjoy these, for Valentines Day or any day of the year!  Don't miss another Chefwannabe fan love story blog coming up this week!  You might even get the sweet story of my own proposal.  Ok well I think it is pretty sweet!  If you want me to share your love story email me ftchefwannabe@hotmail.com ASAP or at most by the end of the week!  Include a photo and a recipe!

Have a great day.  Please continue emailing me with requests, questions or anything else.  Follow me on FB or on twitter @FTofChefWannabe!  You can follow me on PINTREST-Christine Simmerman.
